We’ve gathered some info about lighting
that we hope you’ll find useful

Lighting in the home is something we rarely think about, yet it affects us as much as colour and space. We naturally gravitate towards places where the lighting suits our needs and state of mind.

LED Lighting

LED is the most energy efficient form of lighting, providing cost savings and excellent lifespan.

Use less electricity for the same light output – 85% less electricity when compared to incandescent lighting and around 18% less electricity compared to low energy lamps. LED lamps switch ON and OFF instantly and are flicker free, there is no warm up time. There have been massive advances in LED design so that modern LED lamps look nearly identical to the filament and halogen bulbs that you’re used to. NUD Collection offer a range of decorative LED light sources.

Kelvin measure the color temperature

The warm color of a decorative lamp is around 2700-3000K. This is the most popular choice for homes. Choosing the right color temperature is important and will depend on the mood you want to create in a room. A cool white light may fit perfect in the kitchen and a warmer tone will make the living room cosy.

Color temperature in lighting describes how the color of the light appears from a lamp. It is measured in Kelvin, with a scale from 1000K (very red) to 10,000K (very blue).  The higher up the scale you go, the closer the light resembles blue daylight. The higher the color temperature is the colder a lamp will look.

Lumen measure visable light

Lumens is a way of knowing how bright a lamp is. Lumens = Light Output. The higher the lumen rating the brighter the lamp will appear. With low energy LED lamps, more light output can be achieved with less power consumption. A 8W LED lamp will give a similar light output to a 40W incandescent bulb. When using LED more energy is converted to light rather than heat. As technology improves, more lumens will be produced using even less Watts. So as a result, using Watts as a guide to brightness is no longer relevant.

Different types of lamp sockets

The socket provides electrical connection between the light source and the lamp holder. The use of sockets allows lamps to be safely and conveniently replaced. There are many different standards for sockets and we present some of the most commen here.
